The recent release of the Snow Moon costumes and bundles by 2XKO has sparked excitement among players of Street Fighter 6, who are left yearning for more frequent updates.
While it's true that Riot's downloadable content (DLC) tends to be pricier than what's offered by Capcom, the balance between releasing engaging content and ensuring players don't feel financially drained is a delicate matter, one that is currently being observed across various fighting games.
Riot Games has taken a proactive approach, recently introducing a new costume collection today. Players of 2XKO can now browse the store for the aptly themed Snow Moon skins, along with accompanying item bundles.
Currently, these Snow Moon costumes are available exclusively for characters Ahri, Warwick, and Illaoi. However, the pricing remains quite high. Each Legendary skin is priced at 2,000 KO Points, which translates to almost $20. This price includes the costume itself, one color variant, an avatar item, a sticker, and a profile cover. If players desire additional color options for a specific skin, they must pay an extra 1,000 KO Points or $10.
In addition to individual purchases, Riot has introduced a comprehensive Snow Moon Megabundle for all three costumes, which includes the various colors, bonus colors, and a finisher screen for 6,000 KO Points, or just under $60. While this price point may seem steep, it aligns with the established pricing structure that 2XKO has maintained since its launch.
To put things in perspective, the cost of cosmetics in 2XKO surpasses that of any other fighting game. However, it's important to recognize that 2XKO operates as a free-to-play model, allowing players to unlock almost any character without spending a dime.
That said, asking players to invest such significant amounts for cosmetic enhancements can still feel like a hefty request. Despite Riot's consistent rollout of new content since the early access phase began a few months ago, the situation is markedly different for Capcom.
Players engaging with Street Fighter 6 have experienced a prolonged wait for the Outfit 4 DLC to begin appearing, taking over a year for this to start trickling out. To date, more than half of the character roster still lacks these new outfits. The last costume update occurred with Mech Zangief during C. Viper's update in September, meaning players have been waiting for new content for nearly three months without any announcements regarding upcoming releases.
Although Capcom did introduce new battle HUD DLC recently to refresh the look of meters and gauges to resemble earlier Street Fighter titles, this addition has not been sufficient to satisfy the player base's demand for new costumes. Never before have we seen a group of fighting game enthusiasts so eager to spend more on a title, yet this is the reality many fans have faced for some time.
Effective communication from Capcom regarding their plans and the future roadmap would certainly alleviate some of the frustrations players are feeling, but thus far, they've largely remained silent outside of announcing DLC character release windows. Currently, Street Fighter 6 is bracing for what could be a six-month hiatus between DLC character releases, with Alex set to arrive in Spring 2026, leaving players hungry for substantial updates since September.
On the flip side, Riot is preparing for the console launch of 2XKO, featuring Caitlyn in Season 1, expected to debut in January, although the exact date remains unknown. This timeline indicates that in just a few months, 2XKO will have introduced multiple characters and a variety of skins, while players of Street Fighter 6 continue to wait.
Although this comparison isn't entirely fair, as the two games operate differently, it highlights how contrasting the support strategies for these two competing fighting games can be. It will certainly be fascinating to observe how both companies progress in supporting their flagship titles in the coming year.
