Unveiling the grandeur of Echo Wood: A living tree masterpiece

Imagine a forest, not just any ordinary forest, but one that's a work of art, a living, breathing masterpiece. Echo Wood, a project by the renowned artist Luke Jerram, is set to transform the landscape between Bristol and Bath. But here's where it gets controversial... it's not just about the trees.
Echo Wood will showcase 365 unique tree species, arranged in a circular pattern, creating a permanent, awe-inspiring installation at the heart of the new Lower Chew Forest. Jerram, known for his grand installations like the Museum of the Moon, believes in leaving room for creativity. He says, "When you leave space for others to be creative, that's when the magic happens." And Echo Wood is all about that magic.
The project is a collaboration with the charity Avon Needs Trees, aiming to boost woodland cover in the Bristol Avon catchment, currently lagging behind the national average. Jerram adds, "This is the first time I've created something that physically tackles the climate crisis."
To reveal the scale of this ambitious project, hundreds of lanterns were installed, each crafted by local community groups with nature-inspired designs. Warrick Barton, head teacher at Pensford Primary School, where students participated, says, "It's incredible to think that our children's children will enjoy this artwork."
